One of the Stanmer Woods paintings featured in the previous blog was short listed last October for The Sunday Times Watercolour Competition 2020 and selected for exhibition at the Willis Museum and Sainsbury Gallery Basingstoke from 28 October 2020 to 16 January 2021 and The Mall Gallery London from 16 to 21 February 2021 (lockdown permitting).
I managed to see the show in Basingstoke before the Museum was closed due to national lockdown. It was wonderful wandering through the exhibition looking closely at captivating skilled descriptions and pictorial invention combining to make such an immersive experience. An active culture of artists constructing contemporary observations via the long established medium of water based paints and paper.
